Christmas Windfall For Self Employed Cheshire Man Mis-sold Payment Protection Insurance

Damian Qualter, a 43 year old, self employed, married father of one from Lymm in Cheshire has received a £4,500 windfall two weeks before Christmas thanks to a refund on missold payment protection insurance (PPI).

The money has been refunded in full thanks to Total Reclaim which pursued the high street lender for mis-selling the PPI on top of a £20,000 loan taken out almost five years ago to self employed Mr Qualter.

"Banks and lenders have been selling PPI to ineligible groups," said Daryl Vickers, Director, Total Reclaim.

"Anyone who is self employed, retired, a student, works less than 16 hours a week, has certain medical conditions, a dangerous job or is in the armed forces should not be sold PPI, they are unable to make any claim - and yet the banks and lenders continue to mis-sell."

Mr Qualter had been paying as much as £500 per month for his loan but felt as though the loan was not reducing month on month.

"I seemed to be paying a lot of money every month and the loan amount wasn't going down - of course I now realise that I was paying almost 25% more every month than I should have been due to the added PPI amount.

"The timing couldn't have been better with Christmas coming up - I've paid off the remainder of the loan amount with the refund on the PPI, so we can concentrate on a debt free Christmas.

"I approached Total Reclaim, filled out one form and left the rest to them - I had my refund within three months - it was a totally painless exercise - and on a no win, no fee basis, there's no risk."

Around 20 million UK households are paying for Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) policies, millions of which may well have been mis-sold.

The vast majority of people paying for mis-sold PPI do not realise they can reclaim their payments - the average refund and compensation is £1,600 - and many are still being sold PPI policies against which they could never make a successful claim.

Many have discovered the policy has been added to a loan arrangement without the customer's agreement, and some have been told they cannot get a loan without taking out PPI.
